  5. The cornea can be scanned with 
  6. diffuse illumination in order to 
  7. detect many abnormalities.  
  8. Corneal scars, neovasculization, 
  9. infiltrates, abrasions, foreign 
  10. bodies, and other conditions can 
  11. often be seen with diffuse 
  12. illumination.  These are not to be 
  13. confused with the light source 
  14. reflection from the cornea (#1) or 
  15. the reflection from the crystalline
  16. lens (#2).
